Atopic dermatitis is a very itchy rash

Atopic dermatitis is a very itchy rash

Atopic dermatitis is a very itchy rash, and scratching usually makes it worse, so it is important to help control itching. You can use an oral antihistamine , such as Benadryl, especially at night to help control irritability and restlessness that the itching may cause. Atopy means a family tendency to a variety of allergic conditions, including asthma, hay fever and eczema. Atopic eczema is the most common form, particularly in children, affecting 10–20 per cent to some extent.

Atopic people are more prone to food allergy. If such an allergy is present, the symptoms are usually obvious to the patient. Atopic eczema is often worse in the folds of the skin where the limbs bend. The itch is intense, but scratching only makes the symptoms worse. Atopic eczema can occur at any age. It usually begins in children under 5 years and most often in infants between 2 and 6 months. how to get rid of eczema

Atopic eczema is often associated with hay fever and asthma, and has a tendency to run in families. It is also known to disappear with age. Atopic dermatitis is typically a more specific set of three associated conditions occurring in the same person including eczema, allergies, and asthma. Not every component has to be present at the same time, but usually these patients are prone to all of these three related conditions. Atopic people who contract the herpes simplex virus can be struck by eczema herpeticum , a serious secondary infection of the inflamed skin that causes a worsened rash and fever.

Atopic dermatitis (AD) - better known as eczema - is the most common chronic skin disorder seen in infants and children. In fact, the prevalence of this condition has risen dramatically during the last three decades. Atopic dermatitis is the most common type of eczema. It mainly occurs among infants and small children. Atopic Dermatitis causes itching and produces the formations of small, red, blisterlike formations that release fluid and then form a crust. Atopic Dermatitis is common in babies and young children but can affect anyone.

Scratching may also lead to secondary infections. Some individuals with dyshidrotic eczema are atopic (have an allergic predisposition). Scratching releases chemicals that cause more irritation, inflammation — and itching. At worst, the skin can become so raw that bacteria gains a foothold, causing infection.

Itching is the dominant symptom and can be severe. Itching and scratching are the predominant symptoms. Scratching not only inflicts gross damage, perpetuating the itch/scratch cycle, but also disturbs other household members.

Moisturizers are available in many forms. Vaseline? is a good occlusive preparation to seal in the water; however, it contains no water so it only works effectively after a soaking bath. Moisturizers should not have any ingredients that may further aggravate the condition. Moisturizers are especially effective if applied within 5-10 minutes after bathing.
